Common reasons to crop

Scanners often leave dark borders around pages, and print-ready PDFs include crop marks and bleed. Trimming a few percent from each edge removes them and makes the page easier to read on screen.

The same crop is applied to every page, which suits scanned documents where the borders are consistent.

Crop is not redaction

Cropping hides the trimmed area in PDF readers, but the content is still inside the file and can be recovered. Never use cropping to remove sensitive information; use a proper redaction tool instead.

Common uses

Scanner borders
Remove black or gray edges from scanned pages.
Print files
Trim crop marks and bleed for on-screen viewing.
Slides

Reading on phones

Questions about Crop PDF

Does crop delete the hidden content?
The crop box hides the trimmed edges in most readers. This is the usual PDF crop behavior, not a redaction tool.
Can I crop each page differently?
No. The same margins apply to every page.
How much should I crop?
Start with 2 to 5 percent on each edge to remove scanner borders, then check the preview and adjust.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Cropping happens in your browser.
Does cropping reduce the file size?
Usually not. The hidden edges are still stored in the file.
