How saving works

Every change is saved to your browser's storage on this device as you type, and the save time appears under the editor. The note belongs to this browser on this computer: it does not sync to your phone or another browser.

Clearing your browser data, using a private window, or switching browsers means the note will not be there. Download anything important as a .txt or .md file to keep a permanent copy.

Writing features

Turn on line numbers for code, lists, and drafts you need to reference. Download .md keeps Markdown formatting such as headings and lists for use in tools like Notion, Obsidian, or GitHub.

Live counts show words, characters, paragraphs, lines, and an estimated reading time, so the notepad doubles as a quick word counter while you write.

Common uses

Quick scratchpad
Jot down phone numbers, links, or snippets during a call without opening another app.
Drafting posts
Write a post or email with live word and character counts.
Private notes
Keep notes that never leave your device and need no account.
Markdown drafts
Write in Markdown and download a .md file for your docs or repo.

Questions about Online Notepad

Is note content uploaded to servers?
No. Notes are stored only in this browser on your device. Clearing your browser data deletes them, so download anything important.
Can other people access my notes?
No. Notes remain stored in your local browser profile only.
Will my note be there tomorrow?
Yes, in the same browser on the same device, unless you clear your browser data or use a private window.
Can I open my note on another device?
No. Notes are stored only in this browser. Download the note and open the file on the other device.
Is there a length limit?
Browsers allow several megabytes of storage per site, which is far more than a long document needs.
Can I format text with bold or headings?
The notepad is plain text. You can write Markdown, such as # for headings and ** for bold, and download it as a .md file for apps that display Markdown.
